Elizabeth Patterson, Benicia City Councilmember and Christopher Cabaldon, Mayor of West Sacramento, spoke and answered questions about wise land use and how climate change would affect our State and Solano County.*
(Christopher Cabaldon is running for State Assembly in the Benicia 8th Assembly District to replace Lois Wolk who will be “termed out”.)
There was a short video of Al Gore talking about the climate crisis and urging everyone to sign the Live Earth pledge to join a global movement to take personal action against the climate crisis:
1. To change four light bulbs to CFLs.
2. To shop for the most energy efficient electronics and appliances.
3. To shut off equipment and lights whenever they are not in use.
4. To ride public transit or carpool one or more times per week.
After the video there was a MoveOn Virtual Town Hall video of interviews with presidential hopefuls who outlined their plans to lead the US out of the climate crisis. MoveOn members were asked to vote for the candidate that they felt could best deal with climate problems.
After the Virtual Town Hall video the Live Earth concert from all over the world was shown on TV. (...but it was soon turned off because everybody was more interested in talking about ways that individuals could work toward reducing green house gases and their own carbon foot print.
