End-of-campaign message - EVERY VOTE COUNTS! Please everyone - get out and vote! (more ...)

As your mayor, I pledge: ON FAIR, LOCAL AND CLEAN ELECTIONS … I pledge to abide by Benicia’s 2009 Fair Campaign ordinance which I helped to pass, “Contribution and Voluntary Spending Limits.” I pledge to take contributions from individuals and local businesses only, AND not to take out-of-town or large corporate donations ... (which means we need lots of donations from citizens like you). ON PROTECTING OPEN SPACE … I pledge to support the February 17, 2009  City Council 5-0 approval of a “Benicia Business Park" resolution that requires a new EIR and other safeguards to protect hills and open space and that provides for a sustainable, walkable, A+ project that creates jobs for Benicians.  ON THE ARSENAL CLEANUP … I pledge to support the City’s affirmative duty and primary goal of protecting public health and safety and to ensure efficient and effective cleanup of the Arsenal without adverse impacts on economic activities and businesses. (See City Council agenda item.)

I kept my promises:

• Protected Benicia
• Insisted that Seeno abide by our General Plan
• Campaigned to protect historic districts
• Opposed outside funding for local elections
• Promoted community participation
• Encouraged open government
• Established Arts & Culture and Sustainability commissions
• Encouraged solutions for school district support
• Shared field maintenance
• Full cooperation with the School Board
• Created an atmosphere of respect and cooperation
• Kept weekly open office hours
• Stood for maintaining our high public safety standards

In the next four years I will:

• Fight to maintain city services and a balanced budget
• Re-negotiate realistic salaries/benefits
• Work to diversify Benicia’s economic base
• Support sustainability
• Protect Benicia’s open space
• Persist in making Arts and Culture a priority
• Maintain my commitment to open government
• Lead with dignity and fairness
• Support the business park and downtown merchants with improvements to bring jobs and needed revenue to the city
• Continue to invite differing personal opinions
